across a one lane bridge at the end of garden street
a little white house with a swinging porch seat
overlooking crossroads sipping sweet tea
watching hummingbirds come up to feed

pot belly stove stood warm in the kitchen
a pot on the stove and a pan in the oven
music on the kitchen radio dance and listen
granddad's cooking feeding neighbors and cousins

we always had an open front door
we were rich to be poor
my happy world drifting by
on Garden street that porch so high
I can't go back it's not the same
but I still go down memory lane
to a lifetime of sweet memories on Garden Street

on lazy summer days welcoming soft falling rains
cooling and cleaning things soft falling rains
pattering on the roof and window pane
hypnotizing me time was a gift

after rain late-day sunbeams like spotlights loomed
lighting up the settling trails of fairy dust
shining on walls flowered paper every room
stirring up the feelings of love and of trust
